Not only does Senator Golden vehemently oppose marriage equality, he now wants to stop New York State from recognizing same-sex marriages that were performed outside of New York. Golden boldly told reporters that the people in his district "don't give a rat's ass about social issues."
Come down and let him know how you feel!!

L.I.D. Unable to Reach a Decision on DA Race After Multiple Ballots; LGBT Political Club Delays Endorsement Vote Until After Petitioning Senator John Sampson A No-Show
After three ballots failed to produce a majority for any candidate, the club decided to delay and reconsider its endorsement in a meeting to be scheduled after petitioning ends in July. Incumbent District Attorney Charles J. Hynes and challengers Arnold Kriss, Mark Peters, and Paul Wooten submitted responses to the clubâs detailed questionnaire and appeared in person to answer questions hoping to obtain the clubâs endorsement.
LID president Gary Parker said, âIt was a lively and well-attended meeting with vigorous debate among club members supporting each of the candidates. But in the end, the membership felt it was in the best interests of the club and the LGBT community to delay the vote and see how the race shakes out after petitioning.â
Former LID President and current Democratic District Leader from the 52nd Assembly District Alan Fleishman added, âIt was particularly disturbing to many club members that Senator John Sampson failed to attend the meeting or submit a questionnaire about his views on the crucial issues confronting not only Brooklynâs LGBT community, but all of Brooklynâs residents.â
Lambda Independent Democrats will reconvene for a special District Attorney endorsement meeting sometime at the end of July.
L.I.D. Statement Regarding Brooklyn State Senator Marty Golden Attempt to Remove Advertising for L Word From Bus Stations in Bay Ridge
If his actions were truly about decency and protecting children, L.I.D. would be on board. However, this is yet another blatant attack on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. This is an ad for a top rated mainstream television series. If the ad were for UPN's America's Next Top Model, I am sure he would have no objection. The Senator's real objection is to the content of the show, which depicts lesbian characters. The Senator is once again pushing his right wing Republican agenda to oppress the LGBT community from being treated equal to those of any other New Yorker.
Furthermore, at a time when the MTA is reporting budget deficits and is increasing fares, it is deplorable that the Senator would try to eliminate viable revenue streams in order to promote his own homophobia. However, we are grateful that the Senator is calling attention to this campaign. Additional attention to this media campaign will help increase the number of viewers, which will inevitably lead to a better understanding of the lesbian community.
