Civil Court - Countywide
Q: Why are you qualified to be a judge?
A: I possess 35 years of legal experience as an attorney engaged in the Civil Practice of Law. I have Proven track record of judicial and civic awareness, community involvement and engagement, and my ability to impartially, firmly and fairly apply the law to the facts and to understand how a particular judicial decision will affect folks appearing before the court. I believe that that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people MUST be able to live openly without discrimination and enjoy equal rights, personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association as all Brooklynites and New Yorkers. Based on this firm belief I hold the view that the LGBTQ community will enjoy the same legal rights and protections as everyone who appear before me. - if elected to the Civil Court Bench.
Q: What interventions and resources do you believe are required to ensure that all judges and court personnel competently and respectfully serve and work with the LGBTQ community? What steps will you take to secure the necessary resources to implement the interventions?
A: I believe that regardless of sexual and self-visual orientation, that the LGBTQ community will enjoy the same legal rights and protections as everyone without fear or favor. As a Judge, I will be limited by the constraints of that office and its resources. However, I can ensure that members of the LGBTQ community are afforded fair, due process before the law and equal treatment by all court personnel and I can also serve as an example for other jurists to follow.
