Q: Summarize relevant background and qualifications
A: I am a Community Advocate, Activist, Mentor, son of Immigrants, son of a long time DC 37 member, President of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn, Leader of the Brooklyn Sector of Copwatch Patrol Unit and U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. I have worked alongside PPA, NYSNA, 1199SEIU, Citizens Action New York and many other organizations and unions, as well as elected officials to advocate for various bills in regards to Womens Rights, LGBTQ Rights, Workers Rights, Immigration, Education, Housing, Healthcare, Criminal Justice and so forth.
Q: What engagement, if any, have you had with the LGBTQ community?
A: I have marched in Pride parades with groups such as Lambda Independent Democrats, Stonewall Democrats and with a few elected officials such as Tish James. I have stood in solidarity with the LGBTQ community on various issues such as passing G.E.N.D.A. and banning Conversion Therapy. I have been very vocal on the assaults and murders of Trans Women of Color and was vocal when it came to holding Ruben Diaz Senior for his hateful homophobic rhetoric. Besides all of this, I have friends in the movement and that I have grown up.with that are members of the LGBTQ movement and have accepted me into their spaces.
Q: As a Councilmember, how will you increase funding that benefits the LGBTQ Community?
A: As the next Councilmember of District 45, I will increase funding that benefits the LGBTQ Community, by meeting with community leaders and members and organizations to find out the needs. I will then work with other Council members to include and increase the funding that would be in the benefit of the LGBTQ Community. I will also allocate funds from my discretionary funds to LGBTQ groups in District 45.
