Living Memorial to Orlando Victims

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams is inviting the public to join a tribute to the victims of the Orlando nightclub massacre. Nearly 300 yards of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple fabric have been stretched out outside Brooklyn Borough Hall, on both the Joralemon Street and Borough Hall Plaza sides, for the public to write messages of hope and solidarity. The office will be out collecting messages on the fabric until they are filled, upon which time Borough President Adams will wrap Brooklyn Borough Hall in the fabric as a dynamic memorial to those lost, which includes two Brooklynites. Later, he will share the messages with the families of the victims as well as members of our greater LGBT community.

We hope you can come out and join us in signing a message on this living memorial, as well as share the word with LID.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims in this morning’s horrific massacre in Orlando. We must band together and turn our anger into action. We must stand up against hate, intolerance, and gun violence. While the investigation is ongoing, we cannot ignore that the alleged attacker targeted a gay nightclub. We cannot ignore that he supposedly had an assault-style rifle, weapons that are legal in the United States. We not only stand in unity with Orlando, but we stand ready to take action." - Public Advocate Tish James

Monday, June 13th - All New Yorkers are urged to join us outside the historic Stonewall Inn for a vigil to remember the lives of the 50 individuals whose lives were tragically cut short, pray for the survivors, and stand in solidarity following this morning's massacre at Pulse in Orlando, Florida.

The LGBT community in America and around the world is often the target of hate, but time and again has proven that love conquers hate. We will not run and hide, we will not cower to violence and we will continue to love and fight for full equality

Please note the starting time for this event is now at 7 P.M. There will be a short program and please plan accordingly with timing given a large crowd is expected along with a police presence.
