LID continues to press for GENDA Passage Following Supreme Court Ruling

Today, the Supreme Court ruled that there is still room for discrimination against LGBTQ persons in day-to-day business dealings. In a narrow ruling, a majority of the Court held that a state commission in Colorado had violated the Constitution’s protection of religious freedom in ruling against the right-wing religious baker who had refused to create a custom wedding cake for a gay couple.

Celebrating 40 Years of LID

40 years is a long time.

In 1978, a small group of Lesbian and Gay Brooklynites met in Gary Deane’s living room to organize a Gay Democratic Club.  And Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn was born.

We have witnessed so much positive change which seemed like a distant dream 40 years ago: civil rights in New York State and City, and marriage equality throughout the country.

As we celebrate our 40th Anniversary this year at Berg’n on May 17th this year, we ask for your join us for this historic event.

You can buy your tickets at the following link:

We look forward to your support and to our continued work together.

LID supports censure resolution in response to Trump's latest commentary

Lambda Independent Democrats condemns, in the strongest terms, President Donald Trump’s recent use of profanity to describe Haiti and African nations. As proud Brooklynites, here we stand united with our borough’s diverse leaders and citizens, many of whom have strong familial and cultural ties to these nations. We support the resolution introduced by our friend, Rep. Jerrold Nadler,  which censures and condemns the President for making these inappropriate and racist comments. We call on all members of the Brooklyn delegation to support this resolution.

“It is time for all members of Congress to make a statement against hatred and bigotry,” said LID Co-President Scott Klein. “Now is the time."
