In a vigil to condemn these hateful acts and demonstrate the strength and unity of our community on Monday, March 15, at 8:30 p.m. at Luquer Street and Hamilton Avenue

The Lambda Independent Democrats, Brooklyn Community Pride Center and our elected officials are outraged by the brutal and hate-filled assault on a member of Brooklyn’s LGBT community by a gang of five cowards, who apparently singled him out for attack because they suspected he was gay. Of course, we condemn violence against anyone under any circumstance. But gratuitous violence directed at an individual because he is gay, or because the attackers believe he is gay, affects not just the victim.

This hate-filled violence threatens entire communities, leading all to feel unsafe and at risk of being targeted. For this reason, we urge all public officials and community leaders to strongly condemn such acts and to promptly take steps to not only vigorously investigate and prosecute these offenders, but also to prevent such violence in the future via better policing and educational programs, in the schools and elsewhere, aimed at encouraging public understanding and acceptance of all in this great and diverse city.  We hope to you will join us on Monday.
